Could England Win the World Cup?
Scyld Berry points out the fact that England are only 7th in the one-day rankings and that we have to seriously think about our style of play before we get too excited about winning the Cricket World Cup in 2007.
There are still some shortfalls in our batting and bowling line up before we start strategising. He states:
Also we shouldn't expect to see Vaughan back too soon. He may get a few International knoack abouts at the end of the season but nothing in the near future. They need a second opening batsman who can make regular one-day hundreds to partner Marcus Trescothick; batsmen who can use their feet to spinners, not just sweep and slog-sweep; a spinner who can not only keep it tight but take wickets; specialist seamers who are not no-hopers with the bat - and all their pace bowlers need to improve their variety and especially their use of the slower ball.
