ICC Concerned with Travelling Costs

The ICC CEO, Malcolm Speed is reportedly concerned about the high costs in attending the Cricket World Cups.

The BBC reports his comments to Test Match Special, where he commented on the high cost of staying in hotels there - especially the media who have to spend 50 nights in the Caribbean. For a start, 50 nights in the Caribbean would be great, but for me to pay that my accountant would shoot me. We don't all have the budgets of ESPN, Sky Sports and the BBC.

He said:

"At my first ICC meeting in 1997, the ICC members granted the World Cup to West Indies. "I remember thinking at the time, That's a very brave decision I'll watch with interest the World Cup in 2007, without realising I would be chief executive at that time. There are nine islands involved, so nine grounds and 20 practice venues are being built for major matches. I think it will have a particularly West Indian favour and I think it will be great fun."

But he did have "areas of concern":

"We have to get through another hurricane season over the next three or four months - some of the grounds have had problems with hurricanes."
But don't forget that March / April is the height fo the holiday season so can't really be avoided.
