ICC CWC Learning from the Football World Cup

The ICC CWC 2007 Managing Director and CEO Chris Dehring and Even Director Nigel Rushman visited the Football World Cup to learn how it was organised and operated and will present their findings at a meeting entitled 'Lessons and Insights from the FIFA World Cup'.

I've recently returned from Barbados and the local press were slating the organisation of the 2007 Cricket World Cup. They commented that the organisation was just not good enough. I spoke with Andrew Stevens who had a lot of experience in the sport travel market just before he suddenly died, and he was highly critical of the organisation, especially relating to travel and transportation. He commented that many of the international carriers were unwilling to lay on extra flights until the local companies such as Air Jamaica, Caribbean Airlines, Westernair etc could guarantee availability during the world cup.

There are a number of horror stories relating to flights between the Caribbean Islands.

So my message to the ICC CWC 2007 committees is to get the internal transportation spot on, or you'll leave many a fan with a very bad perception of the region.

Andrew also mentioned that all the hotels in the area have already been booked up. So what do you do if you haven't got a yacht or don't have Cliff Richard's number to crash on his mansion floor? Well you could try a Youth Hostel In Saint Lucia.
